Awesome Metal Gear Solid moments
The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most unique series in gaming ever. While most games try to shock you to be remembered, the Metal Gear Solid’s will be remembered for more subtle things along with some of its crazy cut scenes that were either epic or tugged at the heart strings. Let’s take a trip down memory lane.
Emotional Story
Emotion is entwined throughout the Metal Gear Solid saga. In MGS3, the final battle between The Boss and Naked Snake hits number 11 on the emotion scale. If the dialogue wasn’t enough, the final button press to execute The Boss while she lies half dead on the floor will push you to tears. While you’re still trying to recover from the emotion overload, the Eve speech that brings out the truth about The Boss’s reasons for what seemed liked betrayal to her country will turn you into a blubbering mess.
That Ladder
In theory a 2 minute ladder climb would be boring. In MGS3 you have to do this but instead of it being boring, it’s quite enlightening. As you ascend the ladder, a vocal version of the Jame Bond inspired theme tune kicks in. You have time to reflect on the game just gone by.
The Cardboard Box
The cardboard box has been in the MGS series from day one. In MGS1 you can get into the back of a delivery truck and depending on what box you hid in, the enemy would deliver you to specific areas of the game. The series continued to use the cardboard all the way through to number 4. In MGS4 you could even hide in an oil drum, tip over and roll down enemies.
Epic Boss Battles
MGS as some of the most inspired boss battles in gaming. Some stand out battles include: the hour long battle with The End; the sniper duel with Sniper wolf; exchanging rockets in the roof top Hind D helicopter battle. The list could go on. The more exceptional boss battle is the mind dodging combat with Psycho Mantis in MGS1, made brilliant by the fact you had to swap controller ports so Psycho Mantis couldn’t read your mind, touch of genius from Kojima. Another poignant moment is the comatose battle with the creepy Sorrow in MGS3. While wading up a stream, you have to avoid ghostly incarnations of all the people that you’ve killed with ghostlike screams adding to the eerie background music. Each ghost you come in contact with drains your life so the more people you’ve killed throughout the game, the harder the level will be.
Microwave Corridor
You’ll struggle to find a character pushed to the limit like Snakes microwave corridor crawl. As Snake puts every last drop of energy into traversing the length of the corridor, his Octocamo suit melts and destructs under the extreme radiation. You can almost feel his pain.
