Dead Island: Riptide. The more we say it, the more we think about how nicely it rolls off of the tongue. You’d find it hard to find someone who has never heard of Deep Silver’s take on a zombie epidemic game. If you didn’t see the first trailer for Dead Island when the game was announced, then the rock you were living under has worse reception than we first assumed. Techland and publisher Deep Silver are bringing us back into the Action/RPG world on a new island named Palanai, with just as many zombies. This is Dead Island: Riptide.
The game is a direct sequel to Dead Island, bringing back the characters you familiarized yourself with in the first game, including new characters such as John Morgan. John Morgan has been confirmed to be a playable character in the game and has been said to be a martial arts expert, possibly hinting at a physical based skill tree. The story of the game is pretty basic. After the survivors of the previous game escape from the island of Banoi, they arrive on a military ship just off the coast. The infection follows them, and they must now jump back into the nightmare they barely escaped from. Not sure if people play Dead Island for the story, but there you have it!
Dear John, not the boring film, John as in this handsome stud.
The game will feature the same essential ideals of its predecessor, with single and co-op multiplayer which became Dead Island’s trademark. Both of these modes are no different from each other and left up to the player with the controller in their hand, but to get the most out of this game, you are encouraged to play this game online with friends. Weapon customization has also returned. The game’s combat is still focused on the melee weapons, but guns are still going to be essential to survive Palanai. The game will also feature new weapons, such as a nail gun, with which you can retrieve the nails after you (all in favor of this awesome idea say hell yes).
Bring me that tushie.
The game will be released in three variations. There is the Standard Edition, which can come in a steelbook case. There is the Collector’s Edition (exclusive to North American) which comes with the special edition of the game, a bobble head, a travel suitcase, in-game bonuses, a digital map, a wooden keychain with a bungalow key and a bottle opener. The most interesting one however is the Zombie Bait Edition (exclusive to the UK) which includes the game in a steelbook case, in-game unlockable content, collector’s artwork and a bust of a decapitated zombie’s…bust. This edition caused a lot of controversy, which resulted in Deep Silver having to apologize for the Zombie Bait edition. Never the less, it seems that this edition of Dead Island: Riptide is still being given the green light to be released. I mean, if you are into that kind of stuff then have a ball with this edition, if not then have it as an ornament to freak out your future spouse.
The game will be released in North American on the 23rd of April and in the UK on the 26th. It will be available on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
