Here’s Something Awesome: Octodad: Dadliest Catch
There aren’t enough games out there that are just bonkers. Octodad: Dadliest Catch says goodbye to logic and normality to make a hilarious and wonderfully enjoyable adventure.
Octodad is about a normal man who goes on a trip to the aquarium with his family, and before you know it things get out of control. Oh, but the secret is that this seemingly normal dad is actually an octopus! Shocking! If the idea of an octopus pretending to be human for no real reason sounds like a fun time, then Octodad will keep you happy the whole way through.
The game has you flopping about in different situations with the physical handicap of being an octopus. Daily norms such as getting a glass of milk or buying some food become historical and monumentally stupid events that take far too long. The relentless humor and good vibrations the game sends out will leave you smiling ear to ear, even after you’ve spent twenty minutes trying to open a locked door with a key.
Playing with a controller is the way to go, because having sticks control ligaments is just a little more entertaining than a keyboard. The sticks control moving the right arm side to side and forward / backward, the sticks are a little too sensitive at first, but a little jiggering around in the options has them feeling perfect. Holding the triggers lets you move Octodad, and it’s not long before you find the rhythm to getting around quickly. The control, or rather lack of control, makes Octodad even more entertaining and ridiculous.
The game is a little on the short side. Once getting used to the controls and mechanics, it’s possible to beat the game in around three hours. But I need to stress that this game isn’t meant to be rushed. Octodad is one of those games where you get what you put in, if you create your own personality for Octodad and have your own little adventures than it becomes highly replayable with a wealth of strange events that will leave you in stitches.
If you can’t tell, I love Octodad. It isn’t trying to tell a heartbreaking story, it’s not trying to redefine the genre, its’ just stupid fun and I adore it. If you have a whacky imagination or just love to see bonkers things in video games, then Octodad is for you!
Octodad: Dadliest Catch is awesome!
