Wii U’s Japan launch hints at its future sales numbers

wii u

The Wii U has launched to about 307,000 units in its first week in Japan. That is a little over triple the sales the PS3 had when it launched in Japan. If the Wii U can push out that much in its first week then who knows where it will go from here.

The Wii U has seemingly had a rough start since it was launched in America on November 18th. Sales have plummeted in America and they were not too great in Europe during its first week either. So it looks like it is Japan in to save the day for Nintendo once again. They have basically been the saviour of Nintendo’s 3DS handheld as well. In Japan the 3DS has sold a little over eight and a half million units so far, which is about a million more than its next biggest territory. That territory is America with over 300 million people.

Let’s all just hope that these amazing initial sales truly are a sign of things to come!

Those numbers don’t necessarily mean that the Wii U will sell better than the PS3. More people preorder their consoles now a days than they did back when the PS3 launched.
